Watch the underwater construction of a modular artificial reef system that was developed by Melbourne-based designer Alex Goad.
The system’s interlocking components are designed to fit together like Lego. Each piece is cast in ceramic using a 3D-printed mould before being fitted with steel reinforcements and filled with marine concrete.
The permanent structures can be used as coral farms or replace the diminishing habitats of reef-dwelling species.
